Densonucleosis of bloodsucking mosquitoes
نویسنده
چکیده
Ultrastructure, development and histopathology of a new densonucleosis vlrus of bloodsucking mosquitoes are described. Mosquito densonucleosis virus is infective to all 4 larval instars, pupae and adults of both sexes. Incubation periods were significantly shorter in older fourth-instar larvae than in third-instar larvae. Infected larvae die during the fourth larval instar or as pupae. The limited field tests conducted on this virus have shown its efficiency for infecting larvae of natural mosquito populations.

[The fauna of bloodsucking insects of the "gnus" complex (Diptera) in Leningrad Province and Saint-Petersburg].
The history of the study of bloodsucking mosquitoes, sand flies, black flies, and horse flies in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Province is observed. At present, 38 mosquito species of 5 genera, 67 black fly species of 17 genera, 24 species of bloodsucking sand flies of the genus Culicoides, and 36 horse fly species of 6 genera were revealed in the territory of the region. The analysis of 267 col...
متن کاملThe fauna and seasonal activity of mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in the Curonian Spit (Russia, Lithuania)
The Curonian Spit, characterized by the highest drifting sand dunes in Europe, is a 98 km long, thin, curved sand dune peninsula located in the East of the Baltic Sea. The northern stretch of the Spit belongs to Lithuania, while the rest is part of Russia. Investigations on birds and on bird haemosporidian parasites are carried on in this region. Bloodsucking dipterous insects are specific vect...
متن کاملPotential for the Anopheles gambiae densonucleosis virus to act as an "evolution-proof" biopesticide.
"Evolution-proof" or "late-life-acting" insecticides (LLAIs) preferentially kill older adult mosquitoes and are of extreme interest to control vector-borne diseases such as malaria. We used quantitative PCR to assess whether the Anopheles gambiae densonucleosis virus (AgDNV) had potential as an LLAI. After infection, AgDNV titers increased modestly during larval development but replicated slowe...
متن کاملIsolation and characterization of densonucleosis virus from Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and its distribution in India.
OBJECTIVES Mosquito densonucleosis viruses (DNVs) are known to persistently infect the insect cell line and mosquito population in nature, causing mortality in mosquitoes. Here we report the isolation and characterization of a DNV from Aedes aegypti and its distribution among different Ae. aegypti populations from India. METHODS We screened Ae. aegypti mosquito populations from different stat...
متن کاملSpatial feeding preferences of ornithophilic mosquitoes, blackflies and biting midges.
The section of habitat used by particular bloodsucking insects when seeking bloodmeals may influence the spectrum of hosts to which they have access and consequently the diseases they transmit. The vertical distribution of ornithophilic bloodsucking Diptera (Culicidae, Simuliidae and Ceratopogonidae) was studied using bird-baited traps set at both ground and tree canopy levels. In total, 1240 m...
